JATAN SANSTHAN is a grassroots not-for-profit organization working with the rural population of the state of Rajasthan in the districts of Rajsamand, Udaipur, Jhalawar and Bhilwada. These districts are amongst the most backward districts of the state and Jatan has covered more than 250 villages across various blocks including Railmagra, Mawli, Sarada, salumbar, Jhadol, Kherwada, Bhindar, Gogunda, Rishabdev and Gangapur in these districts.
Since its establishment in 2001, Jatan has designed and implemented various initiatives geared towards improving the social and demographic indicators of the marginalized population, with special emphasis on youth groups. In the last decade, Jatan has worked on programs related to women empowerment through health, education, improved response mechanisms, addressing violence and empowering local women representatives in the panchayats. Jatan has large interventions with migrant labour and their families, alternative livelihood options and placements with youth and migrants and reproductive and health issues of adolescents. Jatan also actively engages in information dissemination to ensure active participation of the community , research and advocacy at all levels. Today Jatan’s efforts in these areas are both endorsed and supported by the district authorities, state governments and the local governments.
